Karen Kelly's story is one of remarkable resilience. After a period of profound personal difficulty in 2023, marked by trauma, bereavement and a decline in her physical health, Karen found herself starting over: without family close by, and rebuilding her life largely on her own.

What followed was a journey of self-directed healing, learning and transformation, one that she generously shared with us, and one we're honoured to help tell.

A New Beginning

Karen began studying with Centre of Excellence in December 2023, just three months after what she describes as a complete life crash. Looking for a way forward, she enrolled in two courses that would become the foundation of her recovery: Naturopathy, and Diet and Nutrition Advisor.

These weren't just qualifications to Karen. They were tools for healing.

Through Naturopathy, she explored visualisation, mindfulness and the therapeutic use of oils, practices that helped her reconnect with herself during an incredibly difficult time. The Diet and Nutrition Advisor course brought physical benefits too, supporting improvements in her psoriasis, hair growth, swelling and mood, while also helping her manage the effects of her ADHD.

Building on Solid Ground

As her confidence and curiosity grew, Karen sought out further courses to support the next stage of her journey. A diagnosis of early-onset menopause, made all the more challenging without her mother or grandmother to turn to for guidance, led her to our Menopause Wellness course, which gave her practical strategies to navigate her symptoms.

From there, she progressed to NLP Master Practitioner (having previously completed our NLP introductory course), developing further skills she could draw on day-to-day. Around this time, Karen also began ADHD medication, and found that the techniques she'd learned through her courses complemented this new chapter, helping her apply what she'd learned in real, meaningful ways.

One small but powerful change captures the shift Karen experienced: she started studying on train journeys, rather than spending her days in bed, exhausted. Over time, she began to find the new version of herself.

A Foundation For Professional Achievement

Karen's learning didn't stop at personal growth. She has now completed seven courses with Centre of Excellence, which, combined with her work experience, supported her successful application for full Practitioner Membership with the Complementary Medical Association (CMA). She also maintains membership with the Royal College of Complementary Medicine (RCCM), reflecting her genuine love of research and lifelong learning.

Perhaps most remarkably, Karen has gone on to pursue formal academic study, drawing on everything she built through her Centre of Excellence courses. She is due to graduate this August with an OTHM qualification in Psychology, and recently passed her Criminology Level 4 studies.

Looking Ahead

Karen Student Stories

Karen continues to study with Centre of Excellence, and plans to keep doing so. Looking to the future, she hopes to use her CMA membership to support victims of trauma in rebuilding their lives, helping others find the same sense of possibility she discovered for herself.

As Karen reflects on her journey, she offers a perspective that feels like the heart of her story: it's not so much what we experience, but how we use those experiences to grow and enhance ourselves on our path through life.

No trauma, she believes, should steal our future.

We're so grateful to Karen for trusting us with her story, and prouder still to have played a part in her journey. Her path to healing and confidence is a powerful reminder of what's possible when curiosity, courage and the right support come together.
