Why Successful People Wake Up Early

When you read about the habits of successful people, it’s apparent that most, if not all, of them wake up early.

But why is that? Can waking early really make that much a difference?

It definitely can. If you want to be successful, you should definitely create a habit of waking up earlier.

Starting your day early is simply a winner’s mindset. Successful people want to get one step ahead of everyone else - waking earlier gives them a big advantage every single day. By the time most people wake up, highly-successful people have already been awake for a couple of hours and done tons of work.

10 Benefits of Waking Up Early

Still don’t think that waking up early is necessary if you want to be productive and successful? Here are 10 benefits of waking up early that will definitely change your mind:

  1. Get More Things Done: It’s simple maths. If you get up early, you have more hours in the day. It allows you to get more things done, so your productivity increases.
  2. Fewer Interruptions: If you’re constantly being interrupted while doing your work, wake up early. Not many people are awake during the early hours, so it’s a great opportunity to get a lot done in peace.
  3. Time for Breakfast: We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Yet, if you wake up late, you might not have time to eat breakfast - you go to work hungry and low in energy. Starting off your day early allows you to enjoy your breakfast and maintain a healthy diet.
  4. You Can Plan Your Day: In order to increase your productivity, you should always plan and organise your day first. If you get out of bed early, you have the time to do so.
  5. Time to Exercise: Exercise is extremely important to your overall health. It makes you feel more energised and allows you to get more work done. But as you know, it’s hard to find time to exercise and that's one of the biggest reasons why people don’t do it. When you wake up early, you create the time and start your day pumped up and ready to go.
  6. Feeling Accomplished: There’s no better feeling than going to bed at night knowing that you’ve been productive and completed the tasks you set at the start of the day. It’s that feeling of accomplishment that helps you maintain the habit of getting up early.
  7. More Energy: This is one you’ll feel once you have committed to waking up early for a while. As you continue to wake up early, you’ll notice you feel a rush of energy each day, instead of the usual sluggishness.
  8. Your Sleep Will Improve: Many people struggle with falling asleep or remaining asleep – often waking in the middle of the night. But instead of using sleeping pills, there’s a healthier and simpler way to get better sleep – wake up earlier. Once your body adjusts to this new schedule, you’ll fall asleep with ease and wake up rested and ready to go.
  9. Feel Less Stressed: Nothing is more stress-inducing than not having enough time to do what you need to do or missing important deadlines. Waking up early gives you that extra time.
  10. Enjoy the Sunrise: There’s nothing better than enjoying the sunrise with a cup of coffee and a good book! Waking up early allows you to enjoy the simple things in life and makes your life much more serene and enjoyable.

How to Become a Morning Person

Now you know some of the benefits of waking up early, you probably want to know how to become a morning person.

Here are some simple tips that will help you:

1. Go to Bed Earlier

This might seem obvious, but it’s definitely worth mentioning. Instead of scrolling through social media late at night or watching Netflix for hours, simply go to bed (and do not use your phone while you’re there). If you go to sleep early, it will be much easier to wake up early. Get used to going to bed and getting up at fixed times, even on weekends, and your body will get used to the new routine.

2. Put Your Alarm Clock Far Away From Your Bed

We’ve all been guilty of repeatedly pressing the ‘snooze’ button and ignoring our alarm clock, leaving us to rise late and rush around to get ready – not a great way to start your day. That’s why it’s a great idea to put your alarm clock or phone far from the bed (even in another room, if necessary) so that you need to get out of bed in order to turn it off. Once you’re up, you’re up – you may as well get your day started.

That simple act of actually getting out of bed is everything you need to begin your new habit.

3. Reward Yourself

If you want to make it a habit to wake up early, you should come up with a reward system for yourself. You need a great reason to wake up earlier. It can be enjoying a nice cup of coffee, having a delicious breakfast, doing yoga or meditating - whatever makes you happy and eager to jump on the day. Schedule an activity early in the morning that will make you happy and inspire you to get out of bed as quickly as possible.

Waking up early has tons of benefits, so it’s no wonder successful people do it. The most important thing you need to do is create the habit and stick to it.

It might be tough at the beginning, but once you experience all of the benefits, you will soon become a morning person!
