Knights Templar

The course begins by giving context to the creation of the Knights Templar by describing the development of a united, Christian Europe, before exploring the Byzantine Empire, the development of Islam, and how the two came to engage in war with each other.

We’ll look at how the crusades began, the violent nature of Europe at the time, how the Church used that to its advantage and how the Knights Templar was formed.

You’ll discover the daily life of a Knights Templar, the rules by which they had to abide, the training they underwent, important battles within the Crusades that the Templars were part of, how they became one of the wealthiest religious orders in existence, and the role of women in the order.

You’ll learn how and why the Knights Templar ended at the hands of Philip IV of France. We’ll examine the stories of what might have happened to the immense treasure that the Knights Templar was supposed to have and what it may have included.

We’ll also look at some of the mysteries and legends associated with the Templars, including stories relating to the Holy Grail, the Ark of the Covenant and the Shroud of Turin.
