This pilates instructor course is built to take you from the basics of how the body moves through to the finer points of running an inclusive, well-structured class.
You'll start with the essentials every fitness professional needs, including anatomy and physiology and the skeletal and muscular systems, plus the circulatory, respiratory, energy and digestive systems that underpin how the body responds to exercise. From there you'll move into the practical side of working in a gym or studio setting, covering:

Teaching a room full of different bodies and abilities is its own skill, so you'll spend real time on what makes a great group exercise instructor. That includes communication styles, leadership, observation and how to help clients who are dealing with common barriers to exercise, like low confidence, tiredness or simply not knowing where to start. You'll also get into goal setting and how to track progress in a way that keeps people motivated rather than overwhelmed.
Before you teach the method, it helps to understand where it came from. You'll learn about Joseph Pilates himself, the development of Contrology, and how his work during the First World War shaped some of the equipment still used today. This module also covers what genuinely makes Pilates different from other forms of exercise, namely its focus on quality of movement over quantity.
This is the heart of the course. You'll learn how to structure a class through its preparation, main and closing phases, including posture types, planes of movement and the teaching formula that ties it all together. You'll then work through the 34 original exercises developed by Joseph Pilates, learning how to layer, adapt and modify each one so a class of mixed abilities can all work at the right level for them. Alongside the exercises, you'll cover stretching technique, transitions and how to close a class properly so participants leave feeling looked after rather than rushed out the door.
Towards the end, you'll put everything together into your own lesson plans and complete dedicated practice hours, including observation, participation and practical teaching. This is where the course stops being theoretical and starts feeling like real instructor training, building the confidence you need before you ever lead a paying client through a session, and many graduates go on to broaden their teaching further by training in yoga once they've found their feet with Pilates. Once you've completed your coursework and assessments, you'll receive certification confirming you've completed the diploma.
