Rooted in thousands of years of tradition, Chinese Nutritional Therapy is an integral part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). This holistic approach explores how foods are thought to support harmony and balance within the body’s energy systems, according to TCM principles. Rather than focusing solely on calories or nutrients, Chinese Nutritional Therapy considers the energetic properties of food—such as temperature, flavour, and action—and their potential influence on well-being, digestion, and emotional balance.

This course introduces the foundational concepts of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), including Yin-Yang, Qi, Meridians, and the Five Elements, exploring how these principles are applied in Chinese nutritional approaches. You'll learn how these interconnected systems are used within TCM to inform holistic wellness practices and food-based traditions.
The course begins with an overview of Chinese medical theory, laying the groundwork with the core principles of Qi and meridians—examining how imbalances are understood within this framework. It continues with Yin-Yang and the Five Elements (Wood, Water, Metal, Earth, Fire), discussing how these concepts relate to the body, seasons, and environmental influences.
With a clear understanding of these principles, you will then explore how Chinese nutritional therapy interprets patterns of imbalance and how seasonal and constitutional factors may guide food choices. The course also includes an introduction to diagnostic traditions in Chinese medicine and how these inform general dietary recommendations and wellness support.
The final module focuses on the energetics of food in TCM: how different cooking methods are believed to affect food's nature, the use of phytonutrients and herbs, and the creation of balanced meal plans based on individual needs and environmental factors.
