What Will You Learn?

Weddings, vow renewals, funerals, memorials, and baby-naming ceremonies are increasingly being created and led by non-religious celebrants. This change from the traditional norms provides clients with a personal experience that celebrates their individual beliefs, needs and wants in unique and heartfelt ceremonies that are truly reflective of their wishes.

The course introduces you to the world of the celebrant, the various ceremonies they officiate, and what it takes to become a celebrant. It walks you through what you need to do as a wedding, funeral or family celebrant, highlights the qualities and skills required to fulfil the role, and how to set up your own business doing so.

Discover the role of a celebrant, the various ceremonies they perform, and the interpersonal and professional skills required to be effective.

In the Becoming a Celebrant Diploma Course we’ll take a closer look at some of the specific ceremonies a celebrant may conduct, beginning with the particularly popular role of the wedding celebrant. We’ll explore what they do, the skills needed, the different kinds of weddings they officiate, wedding ceremony creation, and the unity rituals that can be included.

We’ll look at the function of a celebrant in funerals and memorials, including the various steps to organise them. You’ll also discover many other kinds of ceremonies a celebrant might officiate, such as coming-of-age celebrations, pet funerals and divorce ceremonies.

The course concludes by examining what you need to do to set up a celebrant business – from the basics to marketing practices – and some of the challenges and issues you may face as a celebrant, both on the job and while trying to build your practice.

By studying this course, you will:

  • Understand the role and skills required of a celebrant
  • Become familiar with the ceremonies a celebrant may officiate
  • Learn how a celebrant might conduct various ceremonies
  • Be provided with guidance on how to set up a business and the challenges you may face
