What Will You Learn?

Gain a deeper understanding of trauma and how it affects the brain, body, and behaviour. This course explores the neurobiological basis of trauma and introduces a range of evidence-informed, non-clinical approaches that support emotional regulation and post-traumatic growth.

Learn how the nervous system responds to trauma through the lens of Polyvagal Theory, and explore how somatic awareness, mindfulness, and movement-based practices can help individuals reconnect with their sense of safety and inner balance. You’ll be introduced to key concepts behind methods such as Somatic Experiencing and EMDR, offering insight into how these techniques aim to support trauma integration.

Discover additional approaches such as trauma-sensitive yoga, breathwork, and neurofeedback theory, as well as current research around psychopharmacology and emerging psychedelic-assisted therapies. Ethical considerations, safety, and scope of practice are clearly addressed.

You’ll also explore collective and intergenerational trauma, and how trauma-informed care principles can support safer, more compassionate environments in both personal and professional contexts.

This course is suitable for personal development, for those working in supportive or educational roles, or as an introduction to further professional study. Please note this is not clinical training and does not qualify you to practise as a trauma therapist.
