  • The stages of grief and how they may present in the context of pet loss.
  • Emotional, psychological, and physical expressions of grief.
  • Awareness of when grief may indicate a need for professional mental health support.

Understanding Pet Loss and Grief

You will study the topic of grief in detail, including a breakdown of the 7 stages of grief. This will provide a thorough understanding of the process and how its effects are no different whether the loss is a human or an animal. You’ll gain an educational understanding of:

  • Common grief responses after the death of a pet.
  • How to offer supportive listening and emotional presence during early bereavement.
  • Why pet loss may be especially difficult when the animal was a primary emotional companion.

Support Strategies & Communication Approaches

This course introduces non-clinical strategies to help you:
