Chemistry for BeginnersDiploma Course

The most basic definition of chemistry is that it is the study of matter, but this means so much more than we might think. Matter is absolutely any material substance that has mass and takes up volume in space. Everything you see is an example of matter: a chair, a tree, the apple that falls from it, the water in a jug, and even the sun. The Chemistry for Beginners Diploma Course starts with the basics of chemistry, slowly upping the academic difficulty, and your understanding as you progress. You’ll learn about atoms, ions, molecules and compounds, the periodic table and its uses, chemical bonds, reactions and equations, and the measurements and equipment used in chemistry.

What Will You Learn?

The Chemistry for Beginners Diploma Course begins with a light introduction to the course content, explaining the benefits of learning chemistry and how you can apply it in the real world. We’ll cover common units of measurement before exploring the heart of chemistry – matter and its different types.

We’ll discover the building blocks of our universe – atoms and ions – including structure, characteristics and how to tell them apart. You’ll also learn about molecules and compounds, namely their structures, properties and correct naming procedures.

The Chemistry for Beginners Diploma Course provides an in-depth exploration of the periodic table and its use as a teaching tool –  helping you to learn both atomic structure and classification. We’ll also look at chemical bonds, chemical reactions, the main types of reactions you’ll need to know as a beginner, how to balance equations correctly, and the basics of stoichiometry.

The course concludes with guidance on chemistry equipment, including flasks, glasses and basic personal protective equipment.

By studying this course, you will:

  • Attain a beginner’s level of chemistry knowledge
  • Become familiar with the common units of measurement used in chemistry
  • Learn about matter – particularly, atoms and ions, molecules and compounds
