What Will You Learn?

You’ll explore the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) perspective on the causes of disease and gain insight into the meridian system and the twelve primary meridians. You’ll also be introduced to a wide range of acupuncture points, including their traditional locations and functions, as understood within TCM.

This Introduction to Acupuncture Course offers a broad overview of various TCM-based techniques, including needle techniques, moxibustion, Tui Na massage, cupping and scraping therapies, Chinese herbal theory, and nutrition practices. The course also explores how acupuncture is traditionally thought to support wellbeing and provides important guidance on general safety considerations associated with these methods.

You’ll learn about basic human anatomy and the major body systems to provide theoretical context for how acupuncturists approach their practice. Traditional diagnostic concepts such as pulse diagnosis, tongue diagnosis, and differential diagnosis are also covered to give insight into how assessments are made in TCM.

In addition, the course highlights the value of reflective practice and research for continuous professional development. You'll also explore the structure of a typical acupuncture session and review theoretical professional standards and ethics commonly followed in practice.

Please note: This course is intended for theoretical and educational purposes only. It does not qualify you to practise acupuncture professionally. Further accredited study, practical training, and supervised assessment are required to pursue a career in acupuncture.
