Whether you’re head over heels in love, looking to rekindle a little romance or spending the day solo, there are plenty of ideas here to set every heart a-flutter.

Connect with Your Sacral Chakra

If your love life is currently a little lacklustre, it could be a sign that the energy in your sacral chakra area is blocked or unbalanced. But rest assured – there are plenty of Valentine’s Day ideas here that will reignite the spark just in time for the big day.

Encompassing the lower abdomen, hips, pelvis and reproductive organs, the sacral chakra – the second chakra – is located just below the navel and is the centre of our sexual, emotional and creative energy. Think of it as an invisible disc or wheel that needs to spin freely in order for us to fully delight in passion, intimacy and pleasure.

Valentine’s Day Ideas to Re-Energise Your Sacral Chakra

Boost Energy with Crystals

The sacral chakra is linked with the colour orange, a vibrant and energising colour that can help release stagnant energy. Lie down on your back and place an orange crystal such as carnelian, orange calcite or tangerine quartz on your lower abdomen. Relax, breathe deeply and picture the crystal’s joyful colour filling the area and then, as you breathe out, imagine letting go and releasing any stuck or sluggish energy. Do this regularly for five minutes or so at a time and you may find that you soon start to feel more vibrant. As all the chakras are linked, you may want to try balancing your base or root chakra at the base of your spine with garnet, and the heart chakra in the middle of your chest with rose quartz too.

Shimmy Yourself Sexier

Any kind of dancing or exercise that requires hip shaking, shimmying and swaying, such as belly dancing or salsa, is going to help you connect with your sacral chakra and awaken the area – the more sensual you can make the moves, the better. Or, grab a hula hoop, circle those hips and have a little fun!

Release with Yoga

There are also lots of hip-opening yoga postures that will help positive energy flow through the sacral chakra. Try the Happy Baby Pose to release the sacrum and lower back and open the hips, inner thighs and groin. Lie flat on your back on a mat. Bend your knees to 90-degree angles with your feet facing up towards the ceiling. Grip the outer edges of the feet with your hands, just like a happy baby would! Keeping the ankles stacked directly above the knees, bring the knees towards the armpits. Flex through the heels and gently push your feet into your hands to create a little resistance. Avoid lifting the tailbone away from the mat. Hold the pose for 5 to 10 deep breaths and release slowly.

Try a Scent-Sual Back Massage

Even if you and your Valentine are both brand new to massage, long stroking and smoothing movements (called effleurage) using the flat of the palms and fingers are simple to do on the back and are a nurturing way to connect with each other. Of the Valentine’s Day ideas listed here, this one concentrates most on connecting with your partner, so pull out all the stops.

Set the scene with lots of warm fluffy towels, scented candles and turn your phones off. Begin by warming the oil in your hands, then, starting at the base of the spine (but not working directly over it) glide up the back, across the shoulders and back down to the starting position. Experiment by doing this with alternate hands and in circular movements, always working in continuous, calming strokes, keeping contact with the body at all times. Spend a little time working on the base of the neck too, to release any pent-up tension. Finish with feather-light strokes from the neck to the base of the back.

As with all of our Valentine’s Day ideas, you can get creative. Ignite feelings of excitement and joy with dōTERRA Passion, a warm and aromatic blend of spice and herb essential oils. For massage, mix up to 5 drops with 10ml of carrier oil such as dōTERRA Fractionated Coconut Oil (use fewer drops of the Passion blend if you or your partner have sensitive skin). You could also add 3-4 drops to a diffuser to scent the bedroom. Always use essential oils as directed.

Send Sparks Flying with Feng Shui

If the bedroom fireworks are more like a damp squib these days, then you really need the next of our Valentine’s Day ideas, as it might have something to do with the feng shui in your bedroom. Piles of paperwork, overflowing wardrobes and general clutter could be cutting off your energy and not allowing space for romance in your life. Even photos of family, friends and pets should be moved elsewhere in the home as they are not thought to be conducive to intimacy. Clear the clutter and not only should you reap the benefits romantically, you might even sleep better.

Nibble Snacks with Sex Appeal

You might want to think about spicing things up with snacks with aphrodisiac qualities. Show a little sweetness to your sweetheart with a drizzle of honey (it’s recommended in the Kama Sutra no less) or feed each other strawberries for a scrumptious sex drive boost (it’s all the vitamin C apparently). Failing that there’s always chocolate... be it in a traditional bar or a jar of body paint – well, it is Valentine’s Day after all!

Show Yourself a Little Self-Love

Not all of our Valentine’s Day ideas are about all that romantic mushy gushy stuff created to spoil that special someone in your life; it can be all about you too. Devote some time to yourself doing something you really love. Celebrate female friendship by embracing Galentine’s Day (13th Feb) and invite the girls over for pizza and a movie; make a self-love jar and fill it with positive thoughts and compliments you’ve received, or self-nurture with an indulgent spa treatment. However you spend it, make it a day to celebrate and fall in love with your fabulous self!
